Again I woke at dawn, but without the fanfare of the previous day, leaving them that wanted to to get the sleep they needed.
The Agenda for Wednesday was very loose. We had breakfast and headed down to the beach. It was excellent. We watched some kite-surfers, saw the neighbour land a sea trout, and played some bocce-ball. The kite came out for another round, and some of us played in the surf, though the water was far too cold to consider actually swimming.
After lunch Colleen took the girls out to do some shopping, and when they eeeeeevntually returned we loaded up the buses for a drive down to check out the ferry ride to Okracoke Island.
Next time I will make Okracoke a full day’s adventure. We barely scratched the surface with the half-day we spent there. The 40-minute ferry ride really thins out the crowds, and the souvenir shops are better stocked and much more affordable. All too soon we had to turn around and head back to the ferry in order to get back in time for dinner. It would have been nice to stop for a restaurant meal but when you consider the cost of the Village Grocery food waiting back at the beach house we really couldn’t afford to let it go to waste. Watching the sunset over the rear deck of the ferryboat was very cool.
