Friday morning I awoke at 7AM, quickly transforming into a man with a mission: To serve pancakes to as many EveryBus campers as possible. I packed down the westrailer and disconnected it from the bus, then wheeled it over to the main pavilion to make use of its precious counter-space and power outlets. There were lots of helpers, lots of bacon and sausage, and tons of flipping going on. We fed at least 100 people, probably more. Next year I will be sure to bring more syrup.
After breakfast we got word that Adoom’s bus had suffered a “dropped valve” in upstate PA. Various options were discussed at the time but he was well outside our range to lend direct assistance so we had to make do with “wait and see”. We were very happy with the afternoon news that Dennis Jolliffe was on-site with spare parts and tools.
After breakfast there wasn’t much going on, so I let Jamie Rivers recruit me for an International Horseshoe competition with some good-ole boys from Tennesee. Doc Ric and Chris Slaymaker offered up some challenging competition and some powerful trash talk, but Jamie and I brought our A-game and took the win. Repeatedly. It was a good game, after which we assisted the Tennesee team in drowning their sorrows. By now a lot more buses had arrived so I filled my Red Cup and spent a while working my way around the loop and meeting and greeting the new arrivals.
When I eventually wandered back to the Canadian Pavilion I remembered another task that needed my attention: the stickers and magnets. I borrowed some scissors from Judy and set into laminating Red Cup Ale and EveryBus Radio stickers onto magnet material and then went around the loop selling them off to help raise $$$ to buy a keg to make more Red Cup Ale with. The stickers were a huge success, and I was asked many many times when the shirts would be arriving. “As soon as possible” was the best answer I could offer.
Mid-afternoon Jamie Rivers pointed out a keg for sale in someone’s swap meet stash; and $15 later Red Cup Industries had acquired its first Re-usable Beer Delivery Container.
Friday night: The Potts’ peeled up a 10lb bag of spuds to go with Craig Frasier’s Pig roast. It was excellent... possibly the best chunk of pork I’ve ever had. A bit more jamming with Chris. Ted Finesman came around with a tray of cherries. Beers with my parents, Mark Dearing & Jamie Rivers. Someone gets pants-ed. More beers. Bedtime comes too early once again.
